What To Expect
It’s important to know what to expect with any dental visit. Whether this will be your first visit with us or you’re an established patient, here’s what to expect when you come to Longmeadow Family Dental Care.
Before you come in.
First things first: we need to schedule an appointment with you. You can request an appointment online and one of our staff will call you to verify, or you can give us a call at 301-739-1100 or 301-793-1900. Once you’ve booked your appointment with us, go ahead and download any and all patient forms you need to make sure your first visit goes as smoothly as possible.
Your first appointment: a routine cleaning and examination.
For your first appointment, our hygienists will thoroughly clean your teeth before one of our dentists comes in for your complete personal examination. Your cleaning will include a thorough brushing and removal of plaque build-up beneath your gums. Your dentist will then examine your teeth and gums to assess your current state of dental health. This examination will likely include X-rays to make sure there are no hidden problems, such as impacted teeth, tooth decay, or jawbone damage. It’s important for our team to fully evaluate your teeth, gums, and jaw — along with your overall health — so we can more accurately create a successful dental care plan for you.
Next steps.
After the examination, your dentist will go over his suggested health plan for your mouth — from a recommended regular maintenance plan to filling cavities or creating dental implants. This plan is custom-tailored to meet your needs and make sure your mouth (and consequently, the rest of you) is as healthy as it can be. Once we’ve agreed on a plan, you’ll either schedule a follow-up appointment for further treatment of any dental problems we discovered or you’ll simply schedule your next cleaning and routine examination.
